Marvel VS. DC: The Watchers VS. The Monitors

The idea of a being watching over us and controlling the world isn't exactly new. The human race has been doing it pretty much since the dawn of time, and it only makes sense that the trend would continue in the world of comics.

Marvel did it first, introducing the all-powerful race known as the Watchers in 1963. The Watchers are a race as old as time, and their job is to watch over the universe, but never interfere. Of course, the writers at Marvel break that rule constantly, as it makes a good plot point.

DC followed with their own god-like aliens in 1983, bringing the Monitors into the DC Universe. The Monitors are another age-old race, very similar to the Watchers. However, unlike the Watchers, the Monitors are each assigned a universe to watch over, due to the DC Universe's many alternate realities.

The question though, is which group is more powerful? They both usually stay out of Earth's business, and are peaceful races, meaning they don't often fight. Despite being peaceful however, they each have extraordinary powers. They both have strength, intelligence, and stamina far beyond that of humans, as well as both races displaying the ability to create objects out of nothing.

Although it would never actually happen, let's imagine for a minute what would happen if a member of each race met one of the other. They would each regard the other with distrust, probably staying their distance and observing the other. They wouldn't fight, really. In all honesty it's more likely that they would engage in an intellectual debate, finding it to be more peaceful and a better alternative to fighting. Both have extremely high intelligence, and would see no reason to oppose the other. Results? Stalemate.
