Spider-Man to Join Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures came to an agreement earlier this week. This agreement gives Marvel the ability to put the extremely popular character of Spider-Man, whose movie rights are owned by Sony, into the growing world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The deal will also allow Sony to use characters owned by Marvel in their movies.

The deal may sound good at first, but there is a downside. Andrew Garfield, who portrayed Spider-Man, as well as his secret identity of Peter Parker, in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man, as well as its 2014 sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will not be reprising his role, meaning the third installation in the Amazing Spider-Man series will not be released.

My personal guess is that Spidey will appear in a post credit sequence in one of Marvel's upcoming films, and than make his first full appearance in Captain America: Civil War the third film in the Captain America series, set for release in 2016. The reason I think this is that it fits in with the comics storyline of Civil War.

Although there are some downsides, I am wholeheartedly excited for Spider-Man's appearances in the MCU, and can't wait to hear more about them.
