Marvel VS. DC: Namor VS. Aquaman

Namor and Aquaman, the kings of Atlantis. Well, at least in their respective universes. Marvel's Namor the Sub-Mariner and DC's Aquaman are their company's "Water guys who talk to fish," but which one is better?

First, a little bit of background and history on each character.

                                                            Namor
Namor the Sub-Mariner made his first appearance in the April 1939 issue of Motion Picture Funnies Weekly. The series only had one issue printed, and was never publicly released. Despite his first gig being a total flop, Namor got another chance at the spotlight in issue one of Marvel Comics, published in October of 1939. The character caught on quickly, and remains a mainstay of Marvel to this day.

The mutant son of a Atlantean princess and a human sea captain, Namor the Sub-Mariner is the current ruler of Atlantis. Namor was raised by the Atlanteans, and has led them in battle many times. Namor has the basic abilities of an Atlantean, such as being able to breathe underwater, as well as above average strength and reflexes. He also has small wings on his ankles that enable flight. These powers and training make him a formidable foe, but can he defeat his DC counterpart?

                                                          Aquaman
Aquaman first appeared in issue seventy-three of More Fun Comics, published in November of 1941. Despite being mocked as "Lame", or "Useless", Aquaman became one of DC's most popular characters, scoring many comic appearances as well as TV appearances.

Another child of a human and an Atlantean, Aquaman was shunned from Atlantis as a child because they believed his blonde hair to be a sign of an evil curse. He was raised by a lighthouse keeper and took the name Arthur Curry. He then went on a series of adventures, and returned to Atlantis and became the king. His powers include the ability to breathe underwater, telepathic connection with aquatic animals, above average strength and stamina, and the ability to control water.

Fight time!
Since both of our fighters are water based, let's assume the fight is in the ocean. Both heroes are very arrogant and hot tempered, and will attack almost immediately if confronted. Namor is a bit more arrogant, and would attack first. Most likely a basic punch, easily dodged by Aquaman. Aquaman would then respond by using the water around him as a weapon, creating massive waves to attack his foe. Namor could maneuver around this with his powers of flight, looking for an opening to strike. Noticing his attacks are failing, Aquaman would use his power of telepathy with marine life, calling some sharks to dispatch Namor. Because Namor does not have the ability to communicate with the sharks, this poses a major problem for him. Aquaman would see himself as the victor, thinking Namor helpless, but Namor's power of flight would save him again. Both warriors wield tridents, and would most likely go head to head with their weapons should all else fail. On this field, Aquaman's power to control water allows him to triumph by using the waves to help knock his opponent down, making him the winner of the fight.

In this fight analysis, Aquaman defeated Namor on the basis of his superior powers, making him the true king of the seas.
