Bucky Fan Art!

For an art class I took earlier this week every student made a collage out of tissue paper. I decided to make one of Bucky Barnes, also know as The Winter Soldier. Although this is not my best artwork, I thought I would share it. Also, it gives me an excuse to talk about Bucky.

James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes first appeared in Captain America Comics #1, published in March of 1941. Bucky was originally Steve Roger's (Captain America) sidekick, fighting along side Cap against the Axis powers on the battlefronts of World War Two. After a tragic accident near the end of the war left both heroes missing in action, Bucky and Captain America were both presumed to be dead. Almost seventy years later Cap was found frozen in the ice of the Arctic, but Bucky was nowhere to be found. The explanation for Bucky's absence was that he had been found many years earlier by the KGB, who brainwashed him and fitted him with a cybernetic arm, forcing him to be their assassin, known as "The Winter Soldier". He served unwillingly for many years, constantly having his memory wiped and his cybernetics updated after every mission. Eventually he encountered his old ally Captain America on a mission, but didn't recognize him due to his lack of memories. However, Steve Rogers recognized his old friend, and began to try and help him. Bucky's memories soon returned, and he began a new life as an ally to Captain America once again. Bucky also took over the mantle of Captain America during a period of time when Steve Rogers was presumed dead, and after Steve Roger's return continued in the role for a time, with two star-spangled men working alongside each other.

The character has appeared in numerous media other than comics, including TV shows and video games, as well as movies. Sebastian Stan portrays the character (As Bucky) in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, and returned (This time as The Winter Soldier), for the 2014 sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Stan also revealed in an interview that he had signed a nine picture deal with Marvel, meaning more movies are definitely confirmed for the future.

The character of Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier belongs to Marvel Comics.
