The Most Terrifying Villains of All Time

There are some pretty terrifying villains in the various fictional worlds we love and adore, and I've decided to list the top ten, at least by my standards. The characters that make up this list come from many different fandoms, and are ranked in order of "Most Terrifying", with number one being the scariest of them all.

                                                 #10: Darth Vader (Star Wars)

He's pretty much the definitive badass, the black armor and ominous breathing make him a truly imposing villain. Combine that with the lightsaber and Force abilities, and you have a fantastic bad guy.

                                                   #9: The Daleks (Doctor Who)

The Daleks are beings who exist only to hate and destroy. They don't know about emotions, and will kill anything. They carry out their evil deeds with an array of futuristic weapons, shaped like toilet plungers and kitchen whisks. Aside from their somewhat ridiculous looks, they can be pretty scary.

                                                  #8: General Zod (DC Comics)

General Zod is a power-hungry military commander from Superman's native planet of Krypton. He was sentenced to the "Phantom Zone", the terrifying dimension used as a prison by the Kryptonians, after attempting to take over the planet. Unfortunately, his time in the Phantom Zone allowed him to escaped the destruction of Krypton. He escaped the Phantom Zone many years later, and attempted to take over Earth. His powers are the same as Superman's, with the same weaknesses.

                                                    #7: Hydra (Marvel Comics)

Hydra is an organization dedicated to world domination. I know, what else would a villainous organization be dedicated to? They have some of the best scientists in the world among the their ranks, who create technology for their attempts to take over the world. Thankfully, their ranks also include many incompetent thugs, who slow down their efforts. Despite the flaws, Hydra is a truly terrifying group.

#6: The Weeping Angels (Doctor Who)

The Weeping Angels are a race of aliens from an unknown planet. They appear to be stone statues, so you never know which statues are Angels, and which ones aren't. They have a defense mechanism know as a "Quantum Lock" built into their biology, which means they can only move when no one is looking at them. They kill their victims by sending them back in time, then feed off the energy of the years the victims would have lived in the future.

#5: The Court of Owls (DC Comics)

The Court of Owls have existed in Gotham City, Batman's stomping grounds, for hundreds of years. The Owls' members always come from privileged backgrounds, and wear owl-like masks to conceal their identities. They maintain many hidden lairs around the city, often hidden in the city's landmarks. They have a group of assassins known as the "Talons" that obey their orders. They know everything about Gotham, and often torture their victims past the brink of insanity.

                                                  #4: Malekith (Marvel Comics)

Malekith the Accursed is the ruler of the Dark Elves, who reside in Svartalfheim, one of the nine realms of Norse mythology. He is much like the other Dark Elves, with the ability to wield dark magic, but also possesses superhuman speed, strength, and reflexes. He is very power-hungry, and has attempted to overthrow Asgard, the home of the Norse Gods, on many occasions. He also commands the other Dark Elves as his army.

                                              #3: Carnage (Marvel Comics)

Cletus Kasady was psychopath, convicted of eleven murders. He was serving a life sentence, when a strain of the alien symbiote Venom, chose him as a host. The symbiote bonded with him, creating a new being known as Carnage. Unlike Eddie Brock, the host of the Venom symbiote, the being known as Carnage has no sense of morality. As Carnage Kasady possesses many of the same powers as his main nemesis, Spider-Man.

                                                   #2: The Joker (DC Comics)

The Joker is truly one of the scariest characters of all time. His skin is chalk white, and his hair is a toxic green, the result of a botched robbery at a chemical factory. He has no morals, and finds death amusing. He's always laughing, and will kill anyone, no matter what.

                                           #1: Dolores Umbridge (Harry Potter)

Dolores Umbridge, is the embodiment of pure evil.
